Our client is a major national airline and one of the country’s largest employers, known for operating in a highly regulated and technologically complex industry. With global operations and a large digital footprint, cybersecurity is critical to protecting infrastructure, customer data, and regulatory compliance.
The Task
We were engaged to recruit a Director of Cybersecurity to be based in Toronto and report directly to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). This senior leadership role was responsible for overseeing cybersecurity strategy, governance, and risk management across a highly integrated IT environment.
The Challenge
The client required a candidate with an exceptionally specific profile:
- Extensive experience in cybersecurity leadership within highly regulated industries
- Proven track record managing large, complex IT ecosystems
- Strong understanding of compliance frameworks, enterprise risk, and cybersecurity governance
- Experience in sectors such as aviation, transportation, financial services, or telecom, as specified by the client
Due to these requirements, the available candidate pool was limited. We needed to conduct a broad North American search to identify professionals who could meet the technical and regulatory demands of the role.
Our Approach
We executed a continent-wide search targeting cybersecurity leaders across aviation, critical infrastructure, and regulated industries. Our process included:
- Mapping senior cybersecurity talent in key cities across the U.S. and Canada
- Prioritizing candidates with both SMO-level leadership and experience in enterprise-scale security programs
- Assessing for both technical depth and the strategic communication skills needed to interface with executive leadership
The Result
Within eight weeks, we successfully placed a cybersecurity executive with extensive experience in highly regulated environments and a proven ability to lead complex security initiatives. The hire brought immediate value to the organization’s cyber governance program, strengthening both operational resilience and compliance oversight.
